Nature-Based Art Therapy

Nature-based art therapy can take many forms. Sessions offer opportunities to connect with the natural world through sensory experiences, natural materials, seasonal awareness, movement, imagination and ritual. Sometimes this may be as simple as slowing down to notice the living world around us and engaging with it in the present moment.

Nature-based art therapy may take place indoors or outdoors, depending on circumstances, therapeutic goals and personal preferences.

Indoor Sessions

Indoor sessions may incorporate natural materials into the creative process. Memories, imagination and sensory experiences can also provide meaningful ways of connecting with nature and exploring our relationship with the natural world.

Outdoor Sessions

Outdoor sessions offer opportunities to explore and connect with the natural environment through observation, attention and respectful interaction. The natural setting itself can become part of the creative process, offering different materials, textures, sounds, movements and possibilities for exploration.

Through nature-based art therapy, nature can offer a sense of connection and an opportunity to experience ourselves as part of something larger than ourselves.
